Whilst there are a lot of features in Exchange 2007 that can be configured and tweaked using the GUI and Powershell I have on several occasions (bare in mind I work in Managed hosting so these occasions are not all for the same installation) needed to 'play' with the settings in EdgeTransport.exe.config file [which should be located in C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\Bin\].
EdgeTransport.exe.config appears to be XML which is extremely useful for something else I'll be releasing sometime soon and it also makes comprehension a breeze. Unfortunately whilst you can easily understand ...

Considering how bleeding edge the majority of my projects are I'm a little behind the curve on this one but I've finally managed to move all my Windows Servers across to Windows Server 2008. This includes the Domain Controllers, Web Servers and most critically the Exchange servers.
This post is going to be cut into the following sections:
Exchange 2007 Prerequisites on Windows Server 2008
Cross Forest Migration of Exchange 2007 Mailboxes and User Accounts
Creating SSL Certificates for use with Exchange 2007 on Windows Server 2008

After a lot of work the newest version of the Community Driven Airsoft Map has gone live.
Not that any Airsofters read this blog but; can I say a big thank you to all the people that have been adding to the site, updating information and emailing me with issues and suggestions.
The site finally has a name all of its own; AirBana www.AirBana.co.uk hopefully it'll be easy to remember and tell others about. Bana is a Swedish word that basically means location. AirSoftBana was a bit of a mouthful so following people's suggestions it was reduced to AirBana.

Whilst Airsoft has nothing to do with IT it is something that I spend a lot of time [and money] on and a while back I decided to try and give something back to the community.
Eventually I came up with a newer version of Frank Bothamley's Airsoft Map, it has spent a couple of months in private beta and I've decided that its time to throw it out there and see what happens.

Friday, July 27th, 2007, is the 8th annual System Administrator Appreciation Day. On this special international day, give your System Administrator something that shows that you truly appreciate their hard work and dedication.
Let's face it, System Administrators get no respect 364 days a year. This is the day that all fellow System Administrators across the globe, will be showered with expensive sports cars and large piles of cash in appreciation of their diligent work. But seriously, we are asking for a nice token gift and some public acknowledgement. It's the least you could ...

WARNING: I am not a programmer, I don't claim to be so it is quite likely that the code you will find here will horrify you!
As part of my drive to monitor as much as possible of my systems I realised that creating an intermediate daemon for WMI would allow me to access some of the WMI properties that wouldn't normally be exposed via SNMP and graph them with MRTG.
I'm not going to cover WMI in any great detail so if you'd like to do a bit more reading I would recommend reading through the Microsoft Knowledge Base article on WMI.
As the title suggests the Windows Daemon has been ...
